Hi, my name is Rose Wetzel and I am a Conservation Ambassador and want to Pay It Forward to the Next Generation of Conservation Leaders!
MY FUNDRAISING GOAL – $500
MY WLA STORY + WHY I WANT TO PAY IT FORWARD
I have participated in Wildlife Leadership Academy for two years, and attended both Drummers and Ursids as a student, returning to Ursids as an Assistant Team Leader. I am incredibly interested in the environment and learning about nature, so WLA was a fantastic opportunity for me! After being a part of WLA, I realized how much my experiences had changed me. Before I attended field school I was reserved and quiet, but at WLA I learned to let my voice be heard, work with others through adversity, and step up as a leader. Field school was full of experiences I’d never dreamed of having, like taking the heartbeat of a black bear! Moments like these, combined with the innovative projects and lessons, allowed me to flourish and get outside my comfort zone. I believe every motivated young person interested in conservation deserves this opportunity.
I want to Pay It Forward because I believe that Wildlife Leadership Academy is a program that will enable brilliant students to turn their interest in nature and conservation into a force of change. It is incredibly important that students are not hindered from attending WLA for financial reasons, and therefore, Paying It Forward allows more students to pursue their goals and change the world.
Thank you for helping me in Paying it Forward! – Rose
Below is a slide show of some of my favorite parts of field school!
At Ursids, I was able to listen to a black bear's heartbeat!
Creating a plant collection on a time limit was difficult but rewarding.
At Drummers, I had the opportunity to learn about hunters' hardworking canine companions.
Too much of your life will be lost, its meaning lost, unless you approach it as much through love as through hate. -Ralph Ellison
