Beauty is in the Eye of the Bird Watcher

This week’s blog is a guest post written by Nadia P., a Brookies alumni. Nadia is an aspiring ornithologist who loves everything “bird”. She has spent nearly her whole life with birds and enjoys raising chickens and ducks. Not only does she love birds, but enjoys learning about all parts of the natural world. Genetics is one of her favorite studies, seeing how traits of one organism is passed to another fascinates her deeply. She wanted to attend WLA to further her knowledge of conservation and wildlife.

The Snow and the Birds

This week’s Bonus Blitz Blog was written by Micaela J., a Bucktails alumni. Micaela is interested in pursuing a career in engineering, although she hasn’t decided what type of engineering she would like to go into yet. Last summer Micaela attended Northampton County Junior Conservation School which sparked her interest in the environment and how we impact it. That program led her to learn about the Wildlife Leadership Academy, which she soon wanted to attend because of its focus on conservation and learning about the plants and animals in our environment.

Confounding Cormorants

This week’s blog was written by Emma C., a Bucktails alumni. Emma is an avid student, ballet dancer, and nature lover. When not at dance or school, she enjoys hiking, photography, painting, watching musicals and movies, learning interesting histories, and especially reading. She is particularly interested in science. She was extremely excited to attend the Academy because as she puts it, nature is her, “safe place” where she feels at home. Her favorite quote is by the brilliant scientist Rachel Carson, “One way to open your eyes is to ask yourself, ‘What if I had never seen this before? What if I knew I would never see it again?'”
