This position involves participating in a one-year formal and on-the-job training program to develop the necessary skills and techniques in the areas of public contact and customer service; current developments and issues in the areas of outdoor recreation and conservation; conservation principles; environmental education; public safety; departmental policies, procedures, rules, and regulations; and law enforcement, in order to perform the work of a DCNR Ranger. Specific duties will include assisting with patrols of the park and its facilities and responding appropriately to any situation that may arise.

The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) is hiring a Park Resource Ranger at Kings Gap Environmental Education Center. This is a seasonal non-law enforcement position. In this role, you will engage with the public, provide services, and ensure their safety at Kings Gap Environmental Education Center. You will also inform visitors about the various programs, resources, facilities, and activities available to them at the center and other state park or state forest lands. Additionally, you will be responsible for communicating and monitoring visitor compliance with park regulations and rules pertaining to the use of Bureau of State Park lands.

The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) is hiring a Natural Resource Program Specialist. You will perform professional and technical tasks related to environmental education and interpretive programs at the Elk Country Visitor Center and Region 1. Your responsibilities will include developing program plans, coordinating activities, and managing interpretive information. Additionally, you will support the Environmental Education Regional Program Coordinator by conducting research, gathering data, and assessing visitor needs for parks throughout Region 1.  Furthermore, you will act as the primary contact for key partnerships such as PA Wilds, PA Lumber Museum, and Keystone Elk Country Alliance.

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture is hiring a Forest Technician to work in the Plant Protection Division. Your role will include conducting pest surveys and site assessments in Pennsylvania to detect the Spotted Lanternfly. This will involve contacting property owners to explain survey programs and the need to inspect trees or set traps on their private properties. You will follow specific protocols to place, maintain, and remove survey traps, as well as collect insect specimens and submit them for identification. Additionally, you will visually monitor host plants for signs of target organisms and adhere to data entry protocols provided by headquarters. Site assessments will also be conducted to identify suitable properties for pest treatment or further surveys.

As part of this role, you will support Foresters by aiding in the gathering of field data for stand analysis, sale layout, and other related tasks. This will involve inputting data into handheld data collectors, assisting with herbicide application, providing support for suppression efforts, and participating in prescribed fire operations, among other responsibilities.

As a Park Ranger, your main responsibility will be to patrol the park using various modes of transportation such as motor vehicles, bicycles, or on foot. Your goal is to observe visitor activities and ensure their safety. This may require you to navigate through rough and uneven terrains and work in harsh weather conditions. Additionally, you will be responsible for inspecting buildings and facilities for security, maintaining park signs and posters, and keeping your assigned equipment and work areas clean. It is important to present a professional image to the public and provide information and assistance to park visitors. You will also enforce park regulations and laws, investigate complaints, accidents, and crimes, and take charge in emergency situations to ensure the safety of visitors and the park’s resources.
