Butterfly House Intern

The Friends of Churchville Nature Center are looking to fill two paid internship positions for the summer of 2024 to work in our seasonally run native butterfly house. Interns will work to rear butterflies through all life stages, lead educational public tours within the house, assist in maintaining house gardens, maintain house cleanliness, and work towards the overall management of the butterfly house.

Wildlife Field Technician

East Stroudsburg University is hiring a temporary Wildlife Field Technician. As the Temporary Wildlife Field Technician, you will need to think creatively and be comfortable trapping and tagging, collecting biological samples, conducting tick drags, and assisting with laboratory tests. You will be an active member of the Dr. Jane Huffman Wildlife Genetics team and will work closely with the Director of the Wildlife DNA Lab to trap, handle, and sample from live small mammals while adhering to research methodologies and IACUC approved protocols. You will thrive in this role if you like combining your wildlife observation and lab testing experience while maintaining records of research.

Invasive Species Internship

American Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with Erie National Wildlife Refuge, is looking to hire a Invasive Species Member to contribute to mapping and management of invasive species as well as other biological projects alongside Erie National Wildlife Refuge Staff. Members will primarily assist with mapping and management of invasive plants, and may travel to nearby refuges to assist with projects. Members will also have the opportunity to participate in other activities on the refuge.

Forest Technician

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture is looking to hire a Forest Technician. Your primary responsibility involves conducting pest surveys and site assessments in Pennsylvania to detect the spotted lanternfly. You will communicate with property owners to explain survey programs and inspect trees or set traps on private property before starting activities. You will adhere to survey protocols by placing, maintaining, and removing survey traps. It is essential to remove captured insect specimens from traps on time and submit them promptly to the PDA entomology laboratory in Harrisburg for identification. You will visually inspect host plants for signs of target organisms and follow data entry protocols provided by headquarters staff. Other responsibilities include evaluating sites for pest treatment, maintaining a weekly survey log, and using pesticides to control spotted lanternfly and its hosts.

Biological Science Technician

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is looking to hire a Biological Science Technician in Harrisburg, PA. This position is located in the Wildlife Services (WS), Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) of the US Department of Agriculture. The primary duties of this position will be to implement integrated wildlife damage management methods to resolve damage from a variety of species including black vultures, Canada geese, European starling and white-tailed deer as well as sampling wildlife for various diseases including SARS COV-2, avian influenza, chronic wasting disease, etc.

Geoscience Manager

The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) is hiring a Geoscience Manager. Wildlife Biologist

The Pennsylvania Game Commission is hiring a Wildlife Biologist. As the Wildlife Biologist 1, you will be responsible for performing professional wildlife management work, while implementing, evaluating, and communicating wildlife research and management. This includes, but is not limited to, wildlife population monitoring, habitat conservation and management, wildlife response to management, wildlife impact assessment, wildlife planning, and wildlife health monitoring. DCNR Ranger – Little Buffalo State Park

The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) is hiring a Ranger at Little Buffalo State Park. Conservation Aide – Penn Nursery

The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) is hiring a Conservation Aide at Penn Nursery. In this position, you will help harvest tree seedlings by lifting them from beds, packing them in tubs for refrigerated storage, grading, bundling, and classifying them by species and size, placing quality seedlings on conveyor belts, discarding damaged ones, identifying species, and storing bundled seedlings on racks. You will also assist with nursery seedling operations by weeding seedling beds, transplanting nursery stock, gathering cones and seeds in seed orchards.  Additionally, you will complete time sheets for supervisors, maintain the counting room daily, and perform other requested duties.
