Hi, my name is Travis D. and I am a Conservation Ambassador. I want to Pay It Forward to the next generation of conservation leaders!
MY FUNDRAISING GOAL - $2,500
GOAL UPDATE: $25 OF $2,500 RAISED !
MY WLA STORY + WHY I WANT TO PAY IT FORWARD
I became involved with Wildlife Leadership Academy when my principal contacted me about a career-based opportunity out in PA. Long story short, I attended Bass week, which allowed me to gain valuable experience in conservation. The field school wasn’t all fun and games, though. While we had trivia nights, team-building activities, and campfires, you’ll spend your week in:
Classroom: this is where you’ll learn EVERYTHING there is to know about your animal and its habitat from experienced mentors and guest speakers.
Field: this is where you’ll conduct your research, be it a necropsy, plant collections/studies, electrofishing, or even constructing habitat with reps from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.
Cabins: believe it or not, you’ll spend about half of your day on your feet, so you’ll need time to relax. So, what better way to kick back than with your roommates on the cabin’s porch? (I encourage bringing card games – UNO was crazy)
Mess Hall: this ain’t your standard summer camp, and neither is your food! Students receive quality meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (dessert included!). Oh, did I mention that the staff set out a snack table in the classroom?
Attending field school at WLA truly makes a difference, both for the students and the environment. The courses and mentors offer an unfathomable amount of knowledge and career advice, especially for those who are still undecided. It’s also an opportunity to gain college credits.
I’m continuing to Pay It Forward for WLA because it allows for youth with similar interests to not only make friends, but to connect with professionals who are more than happy to share their knowledge. So please, donate to my page and help secure an unforgettable experience for future conservation leaders.
Thank you for helping me in Paying it Forward! ~ Travis
P.S. if you know anyone who’d be interested, send ’em our way. WLA does scholarships too!
The Wildlife Leadership Academy is a cooperative initiative of various state agencies and conservation organizations. It is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Your donation is tax-deductible.
