MY WLA STORY + WHY I WANT TO PAY IT FORWARD
I was born into a family of wildlife enthusiasts. My grandfather had me exploring the outdoors before I could even walk. When I was nominated for the Wildlife Leadership Academy by a former student and our local 4-H County Leaders, I had no idea what an amazing opportunity I had been given. Attending PA Bucktails has been a life changing experience. It allowed me to learn so much about the species and solidified my decision to choose a career in conservation. The community outreach has inspired me to share my love of wildlife with others in hopes of igniting their excitement regarding wildlife and conservation.
When I was accepted into the Wildlife Leadership Academy, my grandfather told me “This is an opportunity that many kids will never have, be sure to make the most of it. It could change your life.” These words have stuck with me. I often consider the impact that his efforts to expose me to the outdoors has made on my life. I want to be able provide that same opportunity to others. The Wildlife Leadership Academy has made that goal a reality. Through community outreach, I have been able to reach hundreds of youth in my county and teach them about the wildlife living in our community and the importance of conserving our resources so that many generations to come can enjoy our great outdoors.
