This week’s blog was written by Taliah, a 2022 Brookies alum! Taliah is currently attending Bryn Mawr College, majoring in Geology. In addition, she is a member of Bryn Mawr’s tennis team. This summer Taliah returned to the Academy as summer staff – assisting in the behind-the-scenes of field school.
I love being a geology major, it is so interesting learning anything and everything about the Earth! This semester I am taking Mineralogy, as well as a class called “Biosphere Through Time” which are both extremely interesting!
In Mineralogy we’re currently learning a lot about Southeastern PA’s geologic history (which is crazy complex). In Biosphere we’re learning about the various ways in which the earliest forms of life can be seen in the rock record. If you asked me one year ago what a Strombolite was, I’d probably say it’s a type of Italian food!
I am so passionate about geology and hope to pursue a career in some kind of geologic research/fieldwork! I am considering studying abroad in Australia next fall, hopefully more on that coming soon!
