March is here, which means the Wildlife Leadership Academy office has been flooded with final outreach record book submissions. The Class of 2024 has been doing some incredible projects since their field school experience last summer. This week, we are highlighting the work of Tucker, a Bass alum, who has made a significant impact through his outreach efforts, engaging in education, leadership, and service projects.
As an active member of Scouting America, Tucker took on a leadership role in outdoor education. He helped lead multiple camping and hiking excursions with his fellow scouts and taught younger scouts map and compass skills. His engagement extended to a trip to the High Adventure Sea Base in the Bahamas. During this trip, he learned about marine ecosystems, coral reef conservation, and sustainable fishing practices. Additionally, Tucker participated in service projects, including habitat restoration and trail maintenance, and he is currently working on his Eagle Scout project!
Beyond scouting, Tucker expanded his outreach by presenting to a Lions Club about his field school experience. He also created an educational PowerPoint to enhance public awareness about wildlife and habitat conservation. Tucker was very active in his church’s youth group, participating in several service projects and outdoor retreats.
Tucker was an active participant in Pay It Forward, WLA’s student-driven fundraising campaign. Tucker created an online giving page, sent letters asking for support, and wrote thank-you messages to all of his donors. His hard work paid off, and Tucker raised $680 for the campaign!
Through these initiatives, Tucker has positively influenced scouts, community groups, and the next generation of conservation leaders. We are so proud of his outreach accomplishments! Tucker’s outreach is just one example of the incredible work from the Class of 2024, and we can’t wait to highlight more of their projects soon!
