This week’s blog was written by Sam P., an Ursids alumni. Sam attended the Wildlife Leadership Academy because he dreams of becoming a game warden. Sam loves to be outdoors and love all things in it. He is an Eagle Scout as well, with which he really enjoys camping, biking, hiking, and absolutely loves kayaking. In school Sam is active in Envirothon, the golf team, rifle team, and tennis team. He is also involved in marching band and Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). Through WLA, Sam has learned countless new leadership skills to get the public interested in the outdoors and he looks forward to doing so as long as he is able.
This week’s blog was written by Grace H., a Bucktails alumni. Grace is interested in studying mathematics and international diplomacy. Attending the Wildlife Leadership Academy was an experience that allowed her to develop an understanding of ecology from an environmental lens.
This week’s Flashback Blog was written in 2020 by Emma O., a Drummers alumni. Emma is currently a student at Bowdoin College. She is still exploring her college major but has an interest in Environmental Studies as well as Government and Legal Studies. Emma spent this past summer on a remote island in Canada completing a forestry research fellowship. She focused on the potential impact of moss forest floor substrate on conifer seedling recruitment.
This week’s Flashback Blog was written in 2017 by Julia B., a Bass and Bucktails alumni. Julia graduated in 2021 from Lehigh University with a BS in Earth & Environmental Sciences as well as a BS in Biological Sciences. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Calgary. Throughout this throwback blog, Julia also highlights the steps that one must take if you are to follow the guidelines for Leave No Trace.
This week’s blog was written by Emma C., a Bucktails alumni. Emma is an avid student, ballet dancer, and nature lover. When not at dance or school, she enjoys hiking, photography, painting, watching musicals and movies, learning interesting histories, and especially reading. She was extremely excited to attend the Academy because as she puts it, nature is her, “safe place” where she feels at home. Her favorite quote is by the brilliant conservationist Rachel Carson, “One way to open your eyes is to ask yourself, ‘What if I had never seen this before? What if I knew I would never see it again?’”
