Outreach Highlight – Abigail’s Education, Mentorship, and Creativity in Action

This month’s Outreach Highlight features Abigail, a 2024 Bucktails field school graduate who went above and beyond in her outreach efforts, earning an impressive number of points through education, outdoor mentorship, and creative arts activities.

Abigail embraced every opportunity to share what she learned at the Academy. In her education outreach, she set up a manned trifold display on invasive species, led her school’s Environmental Club as president, and gave several presentations on topics like deer populations and riparian buffers. Each effort helped her community better understand Pennsylvania’s natural resources and the importance of protecting them.

Her passion for conservation extended beyond the classroom. Through outdoor mentorship, Abigail participated in guided hunting experiences, including the WLA Bucktails reward Pheasant Hunt, where she shared her skills and enthusiasm with fellow WLA alums. She also harvested her first deer while being mentored by her father and introduced friends and family to the outdoors through activities at Cabela’s and visits to state parks.

Abigail also expressed her conservation passion through creative arts. She captured stunning photographs of the Northern Lights and scenes from Green Lane Reserve, showcasing the beauty of the natural world and encouraging others to see conservation through a new lens.

Abigail’s outreach demonstrates the incredible impact Academy students can have when they combine education, mentorship, and creativity. Her work embodies the spirit of the Wildlife Leadership Academy -empowering young conservation leaders to share their knowledge, inspire others, and connect people with nature in meaningful ways. We are so proud of Abigail and all she has accomplished during her year of outreach projects. With the Early Bird outreach deadline right around the corner, we can’t wait to see what the class of 2025 has been working on!
