Kendal is currently a student at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry where they are studying Forest Ecology. Kendal returned to the academy this summer where they aided in supporting the field school as an apprentice.
This week’s Flashback Blog was written by Laura M., a Bass alumni. Laura is currently a student at Penn State University studying Civil Engineering. This past spring, Laura took a study abroad trip to Peru to study sustainability and the Spanish language. Laura credits WLA for giving her a new perspective on conservation – specifically the mock town hall meeting that helped her understand that sustainability has to be looked at through many perspectives.

She is still exploring her college major but has an interest in Environmental Studies as well as Government and Legal Studies. Emma spent this past summer on a remote island in Canada completing a forestry research fellowship. She focused on the potential impact of moss forest floor substrate on conifer seedling recruitment.

Eileen is currently a student at Penn State University where she is studying Wildlife and Fisheries Science. In the past, Eileen has worked as an intern for Keystone Elk Country Alliance. She also helps other students as a Wildlife & Dendrology Tutor at Penn State. In this blog, Eileen writes about Russel, an Eastern box turtle she spotted in her backyard.

Freya is currently a student at Warren Wilson College where she is studying Conservation Biology and minoring in Outdoor Leadership. Freya is also working on Warren Wilson’s Outdoor Programs Crew where she designs, organizes, and leads outdoor trips and activities for the student body. Freya credits the Wildlife Leadership Academy for providing her with an invaluable network of mentors, role models, and recommenders.
