Our February Student of the Month is Nick Silvis – a very accomplished young man, who has achieved much as a Conservation Ambassador in the months since his field school. Nick is a Drummers alumni, and has been working hard. He has constructed new educational displays (including extensive research), working with Manada Conservancy on an Environmental Impact Statement and helping to complete a management plan for one of their properties, and placing his trifolds at local libraries for the public to enjoy – sharing information and creating a learning opportunity. He has also taken friends to state parks, on plant ID hikes, exploring for local wildlife, and discussing local stream ecology.
Nick also takes the time to exercise his creative side, writing for our NextGen blog as a monthly blog correspondent and creating beautiful sketches of wildlife.
Check out one of his blog posts, about how some creatures eat only one specific type of food as their main diet by clicking here. Stay tuned for even more awesome blog posts from Nick!
We love to see our students getting out in their communities, sharing their knowledge and encouraging others to engage with the outdoors. Nick has done an excellent job of educating the public and taking community members on hiking trips and other outdoor activities – showing that nature can be an educational and exciting place! Keep up the awesome work, Nick!
